MHA Mentorship Program
Overview
The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is committed to providing its students with real-world health care industry knowledge and career advice as they traverse the two-year program. To achieve that goal, we have established a mentorship program.
Mentor Role
Mentors provide professional guidance and career advice to MHA students with the goal of helping them develop skills to become an effective health care administrator and leader. The MHA program establishes goal-setting activities to help spark meaningful sessions and engagement between the mentor and student. Participation in the Mentorship Program can make a lasting impact on the career of a young professional just beginning their career journey.
How it Works
Participation in the mentorship program requires attendance at 2-3 one-hour organizational meetings, a 90-minute kick off session (evening hours) followed by a commitment of up to eight to nine, structured hour-long meetings scheduled late afternoons/early evenings during the academic year (September – May). MHA students will be matched with a mentor who will:
share insights about their own academic and professional experiences;
discuss the skills and competencies needed for career progression and;
advise navigating and avoiding some of the challenges and pitfalls in their current or future roles.
Mentorship Requirements:
attend mentor training, meet-and-greet and/or kickoff events;
commit to attending meetings with your assigned student at least 8 times during the mentoring period;
complete an end-of-year evaluation survey (20 minutes).
